Frequently asked questions
We've compiled a list of the most common inquiries we receive to help you understand our philosophy and process better. If you don't find the answer you're looking for, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.
What is the difference between limited registration and full registration?
Limited registration means the dog is registered with the AKC but any offspring produced by that dog are not eligible for AKC registration. This is standard for all our companion puppies and ensures they are loved family pets first and foremost. Full registration allows for the dog's offspring to be registered with the AKC. We only grant full registration under very specific circumstances to approved, ethical breeders who share our commitment to the breed's health and standards.
What important information should I know before contacting Thunderbird Springers about a puppy?
Purchasing a puppy is a long-term commitment, often spanning 12-15 years, and it's one we take very seriously at Thunderbird Springers. We want to ensure our puppies go to loving, responsible homes that are fully prepared for the joys and responsibilities of dog ownership. Please thoroughly research the English Springer Spaniel breed to ensure it's the right fit for your lifestyle. Consider factors like grooming, exercise needs, and training requirements before reaching out.
What health testing do you perform on your breeding dogs?
At Thunderbird Springers, the health of our breeding dogs is paramount. All our adult English Springer Spaniels undergo comprehensive health screenings relevant to the breed. We are going to be posting results under each dogs profile.
When can I take my Thunderbird Springer puppy home?
Our puppies are ready to go to their new homes starting at 8 weeks of age. This allows them sufficient time to socialize with their littermates and mother, learning crucial canine social skills, and to be fully weaned and robust enough for the transition.
What if I put down a deposit for a certain puppy in an upcoming litter and the litter doesn't produce what I'm looking for?
We understand that sometimes a specific color, gender, or temperament might be preferred. If an upcoming litter does not produce a puppy that meets your preferences, your deposit can be transferred to a future litter. Your place on our waiting list will simply roll over to the next available litter until the right puppy for you comes along. We want to ensure a perfect match for both our puppies and their future families.
What is included with my Thunderbird Springer puppy?
Each Thunderbird Springers puppy comes with a health guarantee, its first set of vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, a veterinary health check certificate, a huge puppy starter pack (including a small bag of their current food, a toy with littermate scent, a blanket and more), and AKC limited registration papers. We also provide lifetime breeder support.
How do I get on your waiting list?
To join our waiting list for a Thunderbird Springers puppy, please first fill out our puppy application form on our website. Once your application is approved, a non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place. This deposit is then applied towards the total purchase price of your puppy. You can find more details on our Waiting List page.
What kind of food do you recommend for my puppy?
We feed our Thunderbird Springers puppies a high-quality, reputable puppy kibble. We will provide you with a small supply of their current food and detailed feeding instructions to help with the transition to your chosen brand. We recommend a slow transition over 7-10 days to avoid upset stomachs.
